Can Registry Cleaners Damage The Hard Drive?
As with almost any invention out there at the moment, there are the proponents and the opponents. Registry cleaning software is no different. Whilst many people have successfully used registry cleaners to get their PCs back on track and regain their performance advantage that they had when they first took their computer out of the box, there are also a few critics who raise a number of potential dangers of using registry cleaners.
What possibly could these dangers be? And, furthermore – if there really were dangers present with the software, wouldn’t we have been told about it in the news or something?
Let’s take a look at the arguments from both sides, and see if we can reach some agreeable level on whether registry cleaners are safe, or whether you may be sorry that you ever used one.
What The Critics Say
One of the biggest arguments against registry cleaners which the critics always cite is that using such software runs the risk of damaging the entire registry on a PC.
They argue that it is almost impossible for a software program alone to identify which registry keys are invalid, redundant, or currently in use by the system. Hence, they say that the software could make a mistake, and delete a key which was actually vital to the operation of the entire computing system.
Obviously, this argument leads on to the fact that if this does occur, you will lose some functionality of your computer, and in the worst case scenario - not be able to use your computer at all.
Is That True?
Okay, that is their opinion - but is it true? Unfortunately, in some cases, it is. Remember, not all software is built the same, and just because a piece of code is given the name “registry cleaner” - does not mean that it is of the same quality as another comparable program.
The key to finding a reliable and high-quality registry cleaner is to search the Internet and read reviews. As you would expect, free registry cleaners will probably run the risk of doing the most damage to your computer, as the intelligence and software behind them is lower quality than what you would expect with a paid version.
Our advice? Spend a small amount of money, and make sure that you get the best registry cleaning program available.
